The Geophysics Program (http://www.geofys.uu.se/) within the Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University focuses on Seismology, Orogen Dynamics and Solid Earth Physics. Reflection seismics is an important research component within the Solid Earth Physics focus. Since 1984, the reflection seismic group has been acquiring, processing and interpreting reflection seismic data using both commercial and in-house products. Targets have varied from large scale surveys geared at obtaining structural information of the entire crust to small scale surveys of glacial sediments connected to groundwater prospecting. The majority of the studies have been over the Baltic Shield, however, the size of the natural laboratory has been increasing with recent projects in the Ural Mountains in Russia, Iceland and Iberia. The group has also been involved in borehole geophysics and was involved in the interpretation of both seismic and gravity data from the Gravberg-1 borehole in the Siljan impact structure. Since 1996, the group has been heavily involved in high resolution seismics studies (surface 2D, surface 3D and borehole) connected to the problem of nuclear waste disposal.
